43 UP Policemen Sentenced To 7 Years: High Court sentenced 43 UP policemen to 7 years together in the fake encounter case of 10 Sikhs
Prayagraj: 43 UP Policemen Sentenced To 7 Years– The Allahabad High Court has commuted the life sentence awarded to 43 policemen in a fake encounter case in Pilibhit, Uttar Pradesh in the year 1991 to 7 years rigorous imprisonment.
In Pilibhit in 1991, 10 Sikhs were killed by the UP police in a fake encounter by calling them terrorists. The Allahabad High Court has sentenced the police personnel who carried out these fake encounters by the lower court to be culpable homicide not amounting to culpable homicide, setting aside the life sentence given under section 302. Now the Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court directed on this matter that all the convicts will serve their jail term and a fine of Rs 10,000 each is also imposed on each convict. The division bench of Justice Ramesh Sinha and Justice Saroj Yadav gave this order after hearing the appeals filed by the accused police personnel. (43 UP Policemen Sentenced To 7 Years)
Let us inform that on July 12, 1991, a group of 25 pilgrims of Sikhism were returning by bus after visiting Huzur Sahib and other pilgrimage sites. Meanwhile, the UP policemen stopped their bus near Kachala Ghat in Pilibhit district of UP and took 11 Sikhs out of the bus and made them sit in their blue police bus.
After this, the dead bodies of 10 of these 11 people were found, and even till today nothing is known about the whereabouts of one Sikh. (43 UP Policemen Sentenced To 7 Years)
