Rampur: Rampur By-election Update– Azam Khan’s application for stay on the decision of the lower court in the case of alleged hate speech has been rejected by the sessions court of Rampur. It may be noted that on October 27, Rampur’s MP-MLA court sentenced senior Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan to a three-year jail term, including a fine, for allegedly making hate speeches. Along with this, Azam Khan’s legislature was also canceled on October 28, the very next day, immediately after a three-year sentence from the court. (Rampur By-election Update)

At the same time, after the Rampur assembly seat fell vacant, the Election Commission had announced to hold a by-election on Rampur seat on 5 November. However, the notification for the by-election to this Rampur seat was to be issued on November 10. But in the meantime, Azam Khan had filed a petition in the Supreme Court on 7 November regarding the cancellation of his legislature. (Rampur By-election Update)

Azam Khan, in his petition, had questioned the intention of the state government and the process of election. On which the Sessions Court decision was heard in the Supreme Court on Wednesday (Wednesday) in the Supreme Court headed by Chief Justice D.Y Chandrachud. Till date, the issuance of notification of by-elections to be held in Rampur assembly seat was banned.
